The Dreamgiver

Task: watch the video ‘Dreamgiver.’  You then have to write a short story or piece of
descriptive writing using this video as your inspiration.Success Criteria;

-use descriptive, interesting language
-start your story with a ‘hook’
-use your senses (see, hear, smell, feel, taste)
-make sure that your sentences make sense
-use a range of punctuation
https://vimeo.com/106989758 this is the link to the video

Have you ever heard of the Dreamgiver? Well,
the dream giver is a magical creature who has wings
like a butterfly and clothes like a goblin and brown
leather goggles to protect her eyes from the moon light.
Now  I'll tell you about one of her adventures.
One dark and scary night, she was flying through a
window as usual with her special dream eggs. She
went over to a child and cracked one of her dream
eggs on a panda toy to give the kid a dream of a panda
and she did it to the next child and the next and the next.

When she was about to leave, an egg fell and cracked on
a scary book and this created a nightmare for the poor
innocent child. The kid was in terror. The Dreamgiver
got into the kids dream where the child  was fighting a
monster. She went to the monster and said, ‘‘Bippity,
boppity, boo. Begone monster!’’ The dream was over.
The Dreamgiver fluttered her wings and flew out the window and said, ‘‘Happy dreams kids’’. The dream giver gives dreams with magical eggs. You will never see her because she only gives dreams to sleeping children and don’t try to fake sleep because she can tell!

Why Sport Is Better Than Music

Why Sport Is Better Than Music

I think sport is better than music because in sport there are so many choices to choose from for example rugby league, touch, netball, basketball etc. You can go to the Olympics or power Olympics for sports and you can't go there with music can you.

Firstly, there are sports for people with disabilities. If you are in a wheelchair there is wheelchair basketball and there is something called RDA which means riding for the disable accusation that’s where you can go horse riding. If you have always wanted to compete in the Olympics there is power Olympics.

Seacanly, if you are really good at a sport it can become a career. You can referee games play the game or coach a team. If you do make a career out of sport it can be good money. Start playing a sports now and you might make some money out of it.

Thirdly, sport keeps you fit and healthy because you are running around the field, court or track. When you get old there is something called walking netball so you can still play but you don’t have to run. You can play for a long time like a super long time.

In conclusion I think sport is better than music. You keep fit and strong you can do it disabled or not. There are so many opportunities so try a sport. Have you ever thought of sport like this?

Toki Pounamu Film Festival

Toki Pounamu
Film Festival

On the 14 of november Apollo 12 was launched and you can’t
forget that the Toki Pounamu Film Festival happened. Today
we went to the Greymouth Regent Theatre to watch the
film festival. It was the first time we had the film festival
and all the films were made by local children. There was
Blacktown School, Karoro School, Paroa School,
Kaniere School, St Patricks and Kumara school. We all
got there on school buss. When we got there we got
seated and then the films started to play. In the middle
we got a short breaks so we got to do a wave which was
quite weird and fun.

My favorite film was one about a crime. It started with a
news report that said,    ‘‘Today there has been a robbery
and the thief stole over 2 million dollars.’’ The people who
filmed it did a really great job because there was some slow
motion and really good props and costumes. Over all I really
liked it.

Kowhaiwhai Art

Kowhaiwhai

In He Kakano (our senior moari group) we have been
learning about kowhaiwhai and their meanings. I had
to create a kowhaiwhai panel with a meaning and this is
what the meaning of it is.

The koru at the bottom represents waves on the beach.
The kape (crescent pattern) represents things doubled
because my family love walking on the beach when we are
camping. I choose to do a whai (stingray) in the middle
because we love watching sea animals in the water.

My NZ Mini Beast Report

We have been learning about mini beast as part of science. we have been doing a information report on a mini beast of our choice. The mini beast we choose had to be in NZ/ Aotearoa. I worked with Breanna. Here is my writing.

The leaf
veined
slug

The Leaf Veined Slug
The leaf veined slug is classified as a gastropod.
(gastropods are invertebrates, they are cold blooded
and are commonly known as slugs and snails). They are
also known as Putoko ropiropi. The scientific name is
athoracophoridae. They look like a leaf. They have a
leaf pattern on their skin which gives them excellent
camouflage. This slug is nocturnal. There are over
30 different species of the leaf veined slug.
This slug can grow up to 60mm long.
These slugs are poorly studied.

Where Do They Live
They live in wooded areas or in shrubs and inside
rotten logs. They can also live in cavities bored
by the pururi moth. They cluster around wet areas
and small pools of water. They’re found throughout
New Zealand/ Aotearoa.

What do they eat?
This slug is thought to feed of fungi and algae on
top of leaves. The leaf veined slug doesn’t damage
garden plants.

Reproduction
Some slugs are hermaphrodites, meaning they have
tane (male) and wahine (female) reproduction organs.
They need to mate in order to fertilise each other’s
eggs. They are sometime found mating on top of leaves.

Social behaviour
Sometimes leaf veined slugs are found huddling together.
They cluster around small pools and wet areas.

Threats
As far as scientists know koeko (birds) are their only
threats. We need to make sure they have habitat to
live it so they stay camouflaged so the don’t gain any
more threats.

This was our information report about the leaf veined
slug. I hope you learned something new about them.
Please make sure to look after their habitat so they
have food to eat and a place to stay.
